Current Report:

Windy but decent catches today

It was quite windy out on the waters this morning especially the second half of the trip but the Tradewinds boats did a decent job of rounding up quite a few bottom fish this morning. The Lingcod bite because of the very heavy current which came along on the ride with the wind was slower today.

Saturday weather OK-Sunday even better

The ocean weather made a turn for the better for the weekend with “good-to-go” weather now for Saturday and really nice weather on Sunday. Come on down and go fishing with us.

Date: Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 06:50:05

Current Report:

Still having some unsettled weather

The best day this week might be Thursday with all of the other days thru Sunday look somewhat unsettled with moderate swell with some wind in the forecast. The weekend keeps going up and down on the forecast so nothing set in stone yet so we will keep an eye on it for you and hope it keeps getting a little better. Long range forecast shows a possibility of breaking out of this persistent weather pattern by late next week.

Current Report:

We finally got out

After being tied to the docks for over a week due to rough ocean conditions we finally got out on the water Sunday morning and were rewarded with good catches. They had to deal with a reported 3-knot plus current as well this morning. None-the-less the rockfish bite was really good and was told the variety of canary, blues, blacks and some really big Olive rockfish was the best of the year so far. Also a nice mixture of Lingcod was in the catch. The picture above shows one tote full of Lingcod and rockfish off the Kadaho.

Ocean weather update

We had to cancel all of our ocean activites today due to rough ocean conditions. The forecast looks a little “nautical” for the next 4-5 days or so which makes us want to tell you to please call our office directly if you have any fishing or whale watch activites scheduled with us thru the end of this next week. We will keep you informed best we can on our APP and the website updates.

Other then that we had decent fishing yesterday (Saturday) before the weather moved in with limits or close to limits on the rockfish and some nice lingcod as well.

Date: Friday, April 10, 2015 at 17:50:48

Current Report:

Good fishing Friday

No official report from the boats out today but I did notice that they were all back in early so fishing must have been pretty good. Sounds like a moderate swell and rain for the morning and into the first of next week as a spring unsettled weather period is upon us. We will keep you up-to-date.

Date: Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 16:16:52

Current Report:

Good fishing a nice ocean

It was a little wet the first part of the trip but the ocean seemed to be really nice out there and the fishing was really good. The Starship reported that the rockfish bite was excellent but not many Lingcod hit the hooks today.

Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 18:38:47

Current Report:

Nice oceans – Good fishing

The ocean weather the past few days has been really nice and we expect the same thru Thursday with light winds and calm seas. The fishing was good again on Tuesday with the boat coming in early with limit catches.

The PFMC will make that determination at there April meeting next week being held in Sacramento, California.

Current Report:

Ocean weather a little nautical today

Woke up to close to a ten foot swell this morning and all fishing activities for the day have been cancelled.

Date: Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 15:25:39

Current Report:

Good Sunday morning fish bite

Sounds like the rockfish bit really well on Sunday morning but that the Lingcod bite has slowed up the past week or so. Pretty much all of the boats are limiting on the rockfish as reported in today on the Kadaho but that the Lingcod bite seems to have slowed on all of the vessels as well.

Date: Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 16:10:00

Current Report:

Another limit trip to report

The Mariner just reported in with 15+ limits on his boat and a few Lingcod. I guess the ocean report was a little bouncy and may be little more bouncy tomorrow morning. Lets hope it does what it does sometimes and we wake up to a decent day.

Offshore “Big Ling” report

The Kadaho ventured offshore Wednesday morning and from the inshore report it was pretty windy out on the ocean waters and then on top of that fishing 600 feet of water. They got a number of Lingcod and also some nice Canary rockfish to bring home but not a limit out there on Wednesday.

Current Report:

Windy but great fishing

The winds were up in the 15mph zone with some higher gusts but the fishing was really good. The Mariner was out there and limited out 16 folks and heard they were home with about one hour to spare. Good day as the fishing results remain consistent with terrific catch rates.

Quick Saturday update

Had several boats out on a windy ocean Saturday and both the Kadaho and Tacklebuster (those were the two that I heard from) had great trips with lots of rockfish and some really nice Lingcod also.

Date: Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 16:10:42

Current Report:

Good bottom fishing Friday

Really good fishing on the Kadaho with a nice batch of really big Bass and a few nice Cod hit the filet table. Hope for good weather as it is spring break time.

Date: Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 14:56:03

Current Report:

Good day on the pond

Really nice ocean and really good fishing on the Morning Star Wednesday morning with some mighty nice Lingcod hitting the decks as you can see from the picture above. The spring breaks are beginning so lets hope for good weather as spring begins Saturday.

Date: Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 10:58:42

Current Report:

Thank goodness the fish bit right off the bat

Interesting morning with such a beautiful ocean at sunrise with fairly calm winds in the 5-10 knot range. The next good thing was the fishing which took off fast and furious from the 1st drift and continued until the Tacklebuster had his fish limit and came back in early. The picture above was part of that hot fishing this morning. The Mr Max had near a limit and came back in as the afternoon forecast happened mid-way in the morning as storm warnings are up around the coast today. It is really blowing hard here now well over 30 knots with higher winds predicted later in the day. Yes, it is raining also!

Date: Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:26:07

Current Report:

Friday fishing terrific

Bad weather here for the weekend

The worst storm of the winter which does not have much time left has landed on the coastal waters and things look iffy for the entire weekend into the first part of next week. Hopefully things will straighten out for next weekend the beginning of the spring break times

In the meantime fishing was good on the inshore and offshore trips on Friday. Before the winds got here in the afternoon on Friday one boat was back in three hours early with a load of rockfish for its customers. The offshore boat limited out on really nice big Lingcod, caught a limit of really big Canary rockfish while out in the deep water (we can keep one around now if you did not know) & then limited out on rockfish when they came back into the shallow waters. Good day.

Current Report:

Canary Rockfish Retention

From the ODFW Website

NEW RULE effective March 11

Anglers may retain one Canary Rockfish as part of the 7-fish marine daily bag limit but are urged to avoid Canary Rockfish (retaining one if caught incidentally) and to recompress any that are released.

Current Report:

Chinook salmon season update

The Chinook salmon season from Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain which is our area out of Depoe Bay will open March 15th and continue till April 30th. By then the PFMC will have had its annual meeting and expect that season to be extended along with knowing what the Coho salmon season will be also in our area. The bag limit is two per person and must be at least 24 inches long. So if there are any out there go out and catch one.

Date: Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 12:39:52

Current Report:

The fishing just can’t get any better

This is just the time folks to take in a fishing adventure exclusively with Tradewinds Depoe Bay as we are having a banner spring season so far. Every day just seems to produce lots of Lingcod and rockfish. The thing that makes it even better is the size of the Lingcod coming to the TW filet table each and every day. The Kadaho just reported Sunday (pic above) with another boat limit of not only rockfish but also a boat limit of Lingcod. Another terrific day.

Our deep water trips can’t be beaten by anyone as our deep water boats normally always get the fish as we go to where they are much more consistently. Our trips are long enough (8-hrs) to give time to catch a bunch of rockfish for the folks onboard also on the way back inshore. Compare if you wish but we are #1.

Date: Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 15:13:20

Current Report:

Terrific grade of Lingcod off the deep water reefs Saturday

Inshore fishing just as terrific

It was another really good day on the fishing front on Saturday with our deep water boat getting a limit of Lingcod of which all were 22 pound fish and above (like the one pictured above) and one was a pound or so over 40 pounds. They then came in a put a limit of rockfish on the boat for the perfect score. The inshore boats also having great trips as the Kadaho reported close to a Lingcod limit and the same for the rockfish. Just another great Tradewinds day with another terrific ocean weather day in the forecast tomorrow.

Date: Friday, March 6, 2015 at 13:17:31

Current Report:

Another great day on the pond

For the 2nd day in a row the Mr Max brought back lots of fish and today they bit so hard that they came home early with limits. The picture above shows another one of the Mr Max “Big Boys” and there were a lot of others not quite as big but sure plenty good to eat. Two of our 6-pac boats, one fishing offshore for the Big Lingcod in 600 feet of water both limited on both Lingcod and rockfish and home early as well. Quite the day folks!!!

Date: Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 12:23:02

Current Report:

Great fishing Thursday

As the skipper said about the picture above, “that is a Big Boy”, and that described the picture very well. The Lingcod fishing remains very strong and as normal the rockfish catch is very close to limits as well. The weather thru this weekend also sounds really good so a good time to get out there and catch some good eating fish.

Date: Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 05:34:16

Current Report:

From five days out the weekend weather looks decent

We are still five days away from the weekend but the long range ocean forecast looks good for fishing trips for the weekend including the next 3-4 days as well. Fishing is really good right now so it is a great time to not only catch some fish but the LIngcod are also on the bite.

Current Report:

Lingcod fishing really good today

For one of those rare times the Lingcod fishing today was a little better then the rockfish catch and we caught quite a few rockfish today also. I know a couple boats limited on the Lingcod and others had really good catches including the Morning Star with a nice “Cod” catch and around 5-rockfish around per customer. Good Day!!

Date: Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 17:24:41

Current Report:

Decent catch day on Saturday

The Kadaho reported in with a little over one around per person on the Lingcod on Saturday with 3+ Black rockfish around per customer and some nice blues in addition. It was a nice sunny day but the wind made the current troublesome with a fast moving one which hampered the catch somewhat.

Date: Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 07:21:43

Current Report:

Fishing has been really terrific lately

Just a quick note on the fishing report over the past several weeks where the Lingcod fishing has been red hot with close to limit catches on most of the trips in the past few weeks. Real nice weather has certainly helped out the cause and we have a good forecast clear thru the upcoming weekend. Crabbing still as it has been remains quite slow.

Sunday Lingcod

Just a quick note as the Lingcod fishing after a few days of good ocean weather returned to the type of fishing we expect this time of year with limits or close to Lingcod limit catches on all of our boats out Sunday morning. Also near limits on the rockfish as well.

Date: Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 12:08:25

Current Report:

Good fishing last three days

Excellent rockfish bites the past few days but because of moderate currents the Lingcod bite has been somewhat slow but one boat on Saturday was getting a little more then one per rod. Windy conditions on Saturday had the ocean a wee-bit nautical but the fish sure did bite.

Will begin daily fishing reports shortly after the 1st of March as we begin to get closer to spring.

Crabbing Report

Just a little update for those of you enjoying a little crab with your bottom fishing trip. Right now the crabbing is very poor as even the commercial crabbing out front of Depoe Bay this winter has also been poor. No reason to believe that it won’t improve this spring into summer but for now not a good bet on success. We will keep you uipdated if and when that changes.
